TRAVELLER

2023
Cotton, Wool-Paper Yarn, Organic Cotton, Linen

As an experience, Traveller reflects all the times I saw textiles in odd places, or places they ‘shouldn’t be’ around the house, and both the feeling of frustration as well as a slight acceptance that came with it.

Traveller is a double-sided blanket with a weave structure that both conceals and reveals different elements of the pattern on either side. A basket weave on one side offers an almost see-through effect, allowing one to peer through, and see the ‘roots’ forming in-between the fabric layers. On the other side, the blue wool in the background creates a dark surface on which a ‘forest’ of roots intertwine with each other. Woven with a combination of wool-paper, linen, cotton yarns, the blanket has a solid, earthy quality in its weight and feel.

I saw my bath towel on the kitchen chair the other day and I could not fathom it in that position. I must have moved it there, but I can never really recall when. They all have a place somewhere in this home, and if not by function, they seem to grow roots in a spot, burrowing themselves on hooks, shelves, counters, beds and floors, an in-between only for them. Peering through the careful arrangements of the space, they appear and disappear. On the horizon is the promise of tidying up, but there are other things on my mind and for now, the roots can dig a bit.
